We offer many opportunities for boys of all ages from 5 year old upwards, in all types of styles to suit the physical aspects of dance that interest boys. So if you want to learn street dance or hip hop , contemporary or cheerdance, we can provide an environment to inspire physical creativity with other boys with a passion for dance and performance. Many of our participants in the Boys only groups also participate in all of our other mixed gender groups too.
One strand of our DAZL Boys work is having the UK’s only All Male Cheerdance Squads the work is dedicated to delivering cheerdance and hip-hop solely to boys. Since 2009 and more recently the DAZL Boys were receiving a great amount of press interest and have been the stars of their own BBC 2 documentary Wonderland “Boy Cheerleaders”, which had over 2 million viewers and even more online.
Since 2010 the film has gone on to be shown in the UK & Ireland, USA (3 states), Canada, Poland, Sweden, France, Germany and Australia with an extremely positive response which has resulted in the boys been invited to Europe to showcase what they do the European media.
The DAZL Boys were also the stars of world-wide internationally renound DJ Tiesto vs. Mark Knights Ft Dino pop video, “Beautiful World”. The boys worked with fashion label Gio-Goi, Mojofuel and Toolroom Records who created the video, you can now see the video on all major music channels including MTV Dance. In August 2012 the boys film was aired in Sweden where the reaction was so amazing they were invited to go to Sweden for 4 days and perform at the Malmo Festival 2012.
The DAZL Boys have appeared on The Paul O’Grady Show, BBC Odd Box, The 5 O’clock Show, CBBC – Basil Brush, CBBC News Round, ITV, Channel 5 & BBC News, and more recently Britain’s Got Talent, CBBC’s The Slammer and SKY 1 Hit Show Got to dance series 3 where they performed on stage with Ashley Banjo & Adam Garcia. They were also featured on secret millionaire on Channel 4, where they spent time with one of the biggest and the most successful theatre producer in the world David King. David supported the DAZL Boys and the rest of DAZL Diamonds by donating £10,000 to the group which has helped over 150 families and to which we were extremely grateful.
The Boys were also featured on the BBC across June 2012 as part on Olympic Torch celebrations and in August for the Olympic winner’s celebrations, The Boys were also recruited to support the BBC Sports Relief 2012 campaign and sport relief has also supported our work in the past. They were also crowned best act in Leeds by Barclay’s part of Barclays live 2009 which has resulted in the boys been successful in more competition and performing at music festivals such as the magic lounge-about across the country.
The DAZL Boys programmes consist of Cheerdance teams for young men aged 7-11 years and 12-17 years. The All-Male hip-hop crews are targeted at young men aged 3-5 years, 7-12 years, 13-17 years and also a All-Male Youth Dance Company which is aimed at boys who wish to take a more creative side to dance using contemporary/ urban dance to explore issues based dance and health work, Some of these boys are now on the NSCD Center for Advance Training programme and others taking dance at collage which is amazing.
Over 2013-2014 the DAZL Boys have taken part in many events across the region performing in All-Male platforms with Yorkshire Dance, ReBuzz, Norther School Of Contempoary Dance, RJC Dance, Pheonix Dance Theatre, Wayne Sables Project and Barnsley Dance and many more.
Many of the older DAZL boys have gained their Dance Leader Level 2 & 3 and are now inspiring the younger DAZL Boys to get involved in dance, supporting staff in delivering the DAZL Boys programmes. This fits in with the DAZL ethos of working with the community, skilling them up to gain qualifications in dance to deliver back into their communities with the support of DAZL. DAZL starts where the boys are at and then uses this as a vehicle to different styles of dance and hopefully vocational dance training.
The Boys have opportunity to work with artists within and outside of DAZL this year they have worked with 2Face Dance Theatre, DeNapoli Clarke, Keira Martin for Keira Dance, Wayne Sables, Donald Edwards, linking with other boys initiatives such as the Leeds Boys Dance Project a partnership between DAZL, Phoenix Dance and Northern School Of Contemporary Dance
We welcome any boy who has a passion for dance and hard work!
