Meet The Dance Leaders
DAZL are proud ambassadors of Child Friendly Leeds, and put local young people at the heart of everything we do. Therefore we have an ongoing commitment to support, train and nurture young talent to enable them to have the knowledge and experience to have a career in the Arts. We listen to our young people’s voices and let that influence what we include in our plans and activity at DAZL. We understand the communities that we work in particularly those with barriers to provision and dedicate our time to nurture them through our DAZL model, contributing towards them achieving their goals and moving them towards a career in the Arts or other related fields of further/higher education. Below we also have the 12 Visions for Youth Dance in Yorkshire,150 young people in Yorkshire was consulted through social media/ surveys. The final wishes were consolidated by students at CAPA college in Wakefield. which young people from across Yorkshire have made the decision this is a priority for them.
Meet the Young Dance Leaders
DAZL has a commitment to training local people our Young Dance Leaders are gifted young people with a passion for leadership aged 14-17yrs. We also have a Dance Leaders program for young people/ artists who are undertaking vocational dance training whilst been support by DAZL aged 17-21years. These leader work closely with the DAZL staffing team to gain knowledge, skills and experience in the art of community dance.
(Senior DANCE LEADER)
Chloe has been dancing with DAZL since 2007 after starting with the ESCAPE Elite group. She then joined DAZL Diamonds and has danced at competitive level in Cheer and Hip Hop. The teams she has danced with remain undefeated. She has performed at many shows and events part of the Youth Dance Contemporary Company. She attends Wakefield College and is in her first year studying Dance at Degree Level. Chloe previously gained her B-TEC Level 2 & 3 in Dance from Leeds City College where she was supported by DAZL. She is assisting/ delivering on many DAZL after-school clubs and DAZL Community Program. Chloe is now working with our Dance Facilitator Amy Smith and Community Freelance Team after achieving her Level 2 Dance Leaders qualification with DAZL. Chloe has performed in competitions/ showcase events and galas nationally and internationally with DAZL, including the Yorkshire Youth Platforms Tour with the DAZL Youth Company. We hope Chloe continue to develop her practice within and beyond DAZL.
Kaci has been dancing with DAZL since 2010 after starting with the ESCAPE group. She then joined DAZL Diamonds and has danced at competitive level in Cheer and Hip Hop. The teams she has danced with remain undefeated. She has performed at many shows and events and is now part of our Youth Dance Contemporary Company. She previously attended The South Leeds Academy and studying Dance, Health & wellbeing amongst other subjects. She is assisting on DAZL After-School Clubs and DAZL Community Program. Kaci is now working with our Dance Facilitator after achieving her Level 1 Dance Leaders qualification. Kaci has performed in competitions/ showcase events and galas nationally and internationally with DAZL, including the Yorkshire Youth Platforms Tour with the DAZL Youth Company. Kaci has now enrolled at Wakefield College to study B-TEC Level 3 Dance progressing her dance journey further.
(YOUNG DANCE LEADER)
Fallon started with DAZL in 2006 part of the the DAZL community program in Belle Isle and at Windmill Primary School DAZL after-school club. Fallon has also been a member of the DAZL Diamonds Cheerdance and Hip-Hop team since she was 3 years old and is a vital member of the team. She is assisting with the DAZL Diamonds Youth & Junior Hip-Hop team with DAZL Senior Dance Leads Natasha Smith & Steph Dobson and has been a wonderful example and role model to the younger people in DAZL. Fallon is now working with our Dance Facilitator Amy Smith in the DAZL Youth Dance Company at attends the Ruth Gorse Academy. She has just completed her Level 1 Dance Leaders qualification. Fallon has performed in competitions/ showcase events and galas nationally and internationally with DAZL, including the Yorkshire Youth Platforms Tour with the DAZL Youth Company.
Abbie has been involved with DAZL since 1999 at a DAZL Community group in Belle Isle, before joining DAZL Diamonds Cheerdance and Hip-Hop Academy. She is now assisting our Active 4 Life program at many DAZL After School dance clubs and also at DAZL Xplode at Cottingley Community Centre inspiring the many young people from her own community in cottingley to take part in the dance club. They have now been involved in many performances she is a fantastic role model to others helping them learn and develop. Abbie is now working with our Dance Facilitator Amy Smith and just recently completed Level 1 Dance Leaders qualification, she like her team mates has performed in competitions/ showcase events and galas nationally and internationally with DAZL, including the Yorkshire Youth Platforms Tour with the DAZL Youth Company. Previously at Cockburn Collage of Arts, Abbie is now looking forward to continuing dance journey at Wakefield Collage where she is doing her B-TEC Level 3 in Dance
Liam started dancing with DAZL in 2012 and is now an integral part of the DAZL Boys strand of work, especially the Male Youth Dance Company/ DAZL Boys which he assists choreographer Stephanie Dobson. He is assisting with the DAZL Boys Cheerdance and Hip-Hop teams as well as DAZL Xplode at The HUB and CATCH, Breakdance crew. Liam enjoys helping the boys learn their technique and progress through the stand. Liam has performed nationally and internationally with DAZL appearing on many TV Show, he is now working with the DAZL team and achieved his Dance Leaders Level 2 qualification. Liam is now doing his Degree at Wakefield Collage and is working hard to progress further in his dance career
Harvey is from Belle Isle and previously attended South Leeds Academy and has been with DAZL 10 years he started dancing at DAZL in 2007 and was one of the first original DAZL Boys in 2010. He is a wonderful role model to other young people and is assisting on South DAZL Comp Teams DAZL Boys Hip-Hop sessions alongside DAZL Artist Amy Smith, Steph Dobson and Director Ian Rodley. He has recently completed his Dance Leaders Level 1 with DAZL. Harvey has performed in competitions/ showcase events and galas nationally and internationally with DAZL over the past 10 years, including the Dance Competitions and more recently performing and delivering workshops for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Harvey is now attending college which he has been accepted to do his B-Tec Level 3 Dance at Leeds City College. Harvey continues to inspire many young people across the city and we predict hes going to be a wonderful practitioner in the future.
