The DAZL Youth Companies are for dancers aged 10-13yrs & 13-19yrs which create  issue based dance and health work, using issues that directly effect young people today. We have an All Male Strand for young men which is part of the DAZL Boys aged 9-11 and the 12-19 years feeds directly into to the “Kick Off Boys Project” A partnership with DAZL, Phoenix Dance, Leeds City Collage and Northern School. The companies have the opportunity to work with external professional artists from across the region alongside the DAZL team.

As DAZL is a Dance & Health organisation and prides itself on been a leader in this field of work ,there is an extra emphasis on health related topics such as – Drugs, Alcohol/ Substance misuse, Mental and Sexual health related topics. The companies will tour there work across the city performing and working with the local communities to DAZL’s work and throughout the region linking with other youth dance companies/ organisations to share their experiences/ work.

This work is used as stepping stones to more advance professional dance training. This strand of work is a real strength to DAZL’s work and underpins the ethos of community development perfectly enabling the young dancer and newly trained artists the chance to thrive and develop their craft/ professional practice. This project enable DAZL and its Staff/ Youth Dance Leaders to inspire other young leader to get the dance bug and deliver back into their community.

The companies have taken part in tours/ performances/ platforms/ film projects with other youth companies and organisations such as Wayne Sables Project, NSCD, Phoenix Dance Theater, RJC Dance, Yorkshire Dance Youth, East Riding Youth Dance, North Links Dance, Joss Arnott, Slanjavah Danze, REES Dance and DAZL showcase events across the city. The group has also been involved with the DAZL #ASHtag project performing Dance

How can I support the DAZL Youth Companies?

We are always looking for help towards costs of sessions, costumes, equipment and transport etc.  For the young people we work with even £5 to cover the cost of a couple of classes really can make a huge difference to their lives.

If you can help then all donations are gratefully received and we would be very happy to include you on our supporter’s page and invite you as a guest to our performances by way of a thank you.  We are happy to consider other ways for people to contribute to the program.  We are registered at – you can click on the donate button below.
