We have an All Male youth company for young men which is part of the DAZL Boys strand aged 12-19 years which came to happen after a wonderful project with the Northern School Of Contemporary Dance “Kick Off Boys Project”. We also have an All-female company for young women aged 12-19 years. The companies will create in contemporary/ urban dance styles and have the opportunity to work with external professional artists from across the region alongside DAZL Dance Facilitator Vicky Mawson & NSCD Graduate Mason Jubb. The DAZL Junior Youth Dance Company is lead by NSCD Graduate Natasha Smith and is catered for young people 9-12 years with a passion for contemporary dance.
As DAZL is a Dance & Health organisation and prides itself on been a leader in this field of work ,there is an extra emphasis on health related topics such as – Drugs, Alcohol/ Substance misuse, Mental and Sexual health related topics. The companies will tour there work across the city performing and working with the local communities to DAZL’s work and throughout the region linking with other youth dance companies/ organisations to share their experiences/ work.
These two companies are used as stepping stones to more advance professional dance training. This strand of work is a real strength to DAZL’s work and underpins the ethos of community development perfectly enabling the young dancer and newly trained artists the chance to thrive and develop their craft/ professional practice. This project enable DAZL and its Staff/ Youth Dance Leaders to inspire other young leader to get the dance bug and deliver back into their community.
